Benefits Of An Electric Recliner Chair

Riser Recliner Chair

If getting in and out of your chair is becoming a little difficult because of stiff joints, a bad back, or any other medical reason, then maybe it’s time to invest in a little help to take the pressure off. Simple, effective, and stylish, electric recliner chairs offer a host of benefits, especially if you have difficulty getting comfortable in an ordinary chair.

What’s the difference between an electric recliner and a riser-recliner?

A riser-recliner can both recline and raise the seating to make it easier for you to get into and out of the chair. This is particularly useful if you find getting into and out of an ordinary chair a struggle. A recliner can go from an upright to a reclined position for relaxation and comfort but doesn’t generally tend to have the raised seating function of a riser-recliner.

Electric recliner chairs do all this at the touch of a button, rather than using a hand-operated lever operation system that manual recliners utilise. So you’ll be able to recline the chair to your preferred position with no effort.

Single and dual motored options

Most electric recliner chairs fall into two categories – single and dual motor designs. Single motors use one motor to operate both the reclining back function and the front leg rest platform. This means that both sections operate simultaneously and that there are a set number of position combinations you can select. Dual motor units, however, use two electric motors – one to operate the back and another independent motor to operate the leg rest. This means you can choose your own bespoke position for both your back and your legs, maximising your comfort.

Dual motor recliners do tend to be a little more expensive, though, but what price can you put on comfort? It’s all down to budget and requirements: if you have more money to spend then the obvious choice has to be a dual motor electric recliner.

Additional extras

One of the most popular additional features on an electric recliner has to be a heat and massage function. If you suffer from bad circulation and tend to feel the cold, or have muscular or spinal issues then a massage function can help to keep the blood circulating, while a heated seat can relax muscles and keep you warmer and more comfortable.

Some electric recliners also have a swivel feature, which can be useful if you want to turn to watch the television or talk to your guests and don’t want the hassle of having to reposition your chair.

How much do they cost?

Electric Recliner chairs start at around £300 and can go up to twice that amount for a top-of-the-range luxury model with 10-point massage, heated seat, and other functions. The type of material you choose will also have an effect on the price (leather, for example, is more expensive than a fabric-covered recliner).

The choice of a dual or single motor will also affect the overall price, with dual motor chairs coming in at a higher price-point than single motor chairs. If you’re on a really tight budget but still want the benefits of a recliner chair then it’s worth taking a look at cheaper manual options, too.

It’s always wise to try before you buy and make sure you measure up before you choose a recliner, as you will need a certain amount of room around the chair to allow it to recline fully.
