4 Reasons to Swap the Car For An Electric Bike
Electric bikes have come a long way since the days of bulky metal frames and unreliable batteries. Back then if it wasn’t a car, you bought a motorbike or a scooter instead.
Electric bikes have come a long way since the days of bulky metal frames and unreliable batteries.
Back then if it wasn’t a car, you bought a motorbike or a scooter instead.
Recently though, people’s attitudes have changed. And so have their options.
People are realising that for many commutes, especially in the city, the electric bike is simply a no-brainer. Save time, money, effort, and even do your bit for the environment.
Not convinced? Read on!
It’s much easier
Most people rule out cycling instead of driving because they are put off by the idea of arriving at their destination red faced and dripping with sweat.
With an electric bike you’re in control of how much exercise you get.
Hills become a breeze, and distances are much more manageable. Pedal some of the way, pedal all of the way, or don’t pedal at all. The choice is yours.
Because you don’t need to break a sweat, you can even leave the spandex at home.
Reduce your impact on the environment
A European Cyclist Federation study concluded that an e-bike’s carbon footprint is just 2.6-5 grams of CO2 per mile (depending on the source of the electricity), compared to 150 grams for most electric cars and 136 grams for scooters.
Previous barriers to cycling such as climbing hills or tackling a head wind are more or less void when using an electric bike.
This has resulted in environmentally minded car users across Europe and all over the world making the switch!
Global sales of electric bikes are expected to rise by 27% between 2014 and 2023. That's 27.1 million to over 40 million sold.
To put that into perspective, in the Netherlands, every 5th new bicycle sold is an electric bike!
Improve your fitness
Electric bikes are perfect for those who love the outdoor lifestyle but suffer with physical restrictions such as bad knees or arthritis.
The PAS (Pedal Assist System) of an electric bike means you only need to apply a small amount of pressure to the pedals to get moving. The electric motor will step in and do the hard work for you!
Once you feel more confident, the PAS can be turned down to a lower level or off completely, at which point the electric bike works in the same way as an ordinary bicycle.
Replace short car journeys with a journey on an e-bike and feel better for it!
An electric bike costs roughly 2 pence to recharge. Assuming you get 30 miles out of a single charge, that’s not bad value for money!
With petrol prices soaring to an average of 118 pence per litre (at the time of writing this), your wallet will thank you for making the switch to electricity for those small journeys.
If you live in the city and swap the car for an electric bike, the savings are even greater.
Wave goodbye to road tax, MOT, insurance, parking fees, and congestion charges, because e-bikes are subject to the same legislation as ordinary bicycles!
